2020 Viognier

Abundantly exuberant, our 2020 Viognier expresses orange blossom, litchee, candied lemon peel and nectarine notes. On the palate, the texture is textbook for this grape, with a very lush and full mouthfeel balanced by lively acidity on the long finish. The essence of spring sunshine in a glass!

The new canopy design combined with the glorious growing season has resulted in one of our best Viogniers ever. The viognier grapes were night-harvested in seven separate passes between September 8 and September 18, 2020. The juice was cold-settled in stainless steel vats for 48 hours and then racked to neutral French oak barrels (5 to 10 years old) for fermentation. The wine was bottled in early February to maximize the intensity of its fragrance and flavor.

The 2020 Viognier is absolutely gorgeous. It presents a compelling interplay of varietal flavors and textures, with striking persistence and freshness to wrap it all together. Beautifully balanced and layered, with lovely oiliness, the Pride Viognier is a winner.

  • Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate: Issue 257 - Rating: 92

The 2020 Viognier opens with notes of peach blossoms, fresh Bosc pears and applesauce, plus hints of fennel seed, allspice and baking bread. The medium to full-bodied palate has a compelling oiliness to the texture with loads of spiced apples and pear flavors, lifted by a zippy line of freshness, finishing long and savory. 1,084 cases were made.

I always love the Viognier from this estate. Their 2020 Viognier reveals a light gold hue as well as classic Viognier orange blossom, honeyed peach, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied (almost medium to full-bodied), it has plenty of richness and depth, a round, lush texture, and a clean, dry finish, all making for a quality, outstanding Viognier from Sonoma. Drink bottles over the coming year or two.
