2009 Viognier
Like the appearance of the first flower blossoms and the return of the swallows, the release of our Viognier is a sure sign that spring has sprung! 2009 presented us with ideal conditions for ripening Viognier of intense extraction and delicate balance. The vineyards were picked in eight separate lots between September 28th and October 10th. After harvest and a gentle pressing, one half of the juice was racked to stainless steel vats and fermented at a chilly 55o F in order to express maximum varietal character. The remaining portion was fermented in six year old neutral French oak barrels, where the wine was aged sur lies to extract a lovely silky texture that adds weight and depth to the wine without adding any explicit oak flavor.
Heady aromas of nectarine, apricot, honeysuckle and star fruit seduce the nose, while on the mouth, an explosion of luscious fruit evolves into a rich mid-palate and a finish that lingers without any trace of astringency. Thanks to a long ripening season, the wine maintains a bright natural acidity which compliments its supple texture. A balanced and charming wine, our 2009 Viognier is poised to delight!
