2022 Sangiovese

This fresh resonant Sangiovese has a compelling almost Burgundian aromatic profile showing bright cherry, stemminess and spicey intrigue.  In the mouth, the wine comes in balanced and silky but then builds to show some sneaky tannin that is typical of a young Brunello.  Flavors show a pleasing range of black raspberry and cherry, dried herb, leather, subtle caramel and a hint of cranberry.  Give it a couple of years and it will be a ringer for an old world sangiovese

Bold and savory notes of dark cherries, cola, graphite and dried herbs. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of blackberry bush, Damson plums, leather and spices. Bold, with an underlying freshness. Drink or hold.

  • Antonio Galloni Vinous: Napa Valley’s 2022 & 2023 Cabernet Sauvignons (Dec 2024) - Rating: 91

The 2022 Sangiovese is a big, potent wine. Black cherry, plum, espresso and spice are front and center. Winemaker Matt Ward lowered yields dramatically, which yielded an especially dark, deep and explosive Sangiovese. I can't say there's much varietal character, but the 2022 is a very good wine if taken on its own terms.
