2018 Reserve Claret

Pleasing flavors of black cherry, marzipan, rain on pavement, sweet tobacco and graphite permeate the senses. But it is the round rich expansive textural expression that captures your attention.  What a gorgeous, comforting wine this is with satisfying flavor and weight pumping in equal measure through the long persistent finish.

The 2018 Claret Reserve is a blend of two-thirds Merlot and one-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon. Bright floral accents give the 2018 its energetic, vibrant feel. It is a perfect example of the Pride style today - a style that increasingly balances fruit richness with bright acids and plenty of drive. The 2019 is absolutely exquisite.

The name “claret” is more than apt here as this is not a wine singularly driven by flashy ripeness, but it is rich and fully ripe nonetheless, albeit with an eye to balance and subtle complexity throughout. It is fairly full-bodied but shows nary an ounce of fat, and, while deep in handomely oaked, red cherry and raspberry fruit, it is a wine that comes with a sense of quiet reserve that strongly suggests that, even though it is not bothered by ungainly tannins, its best lies some years down the road. It has the look of a wine that will age beautifully for a decade or more.
