2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

The considerable power and structure of our 2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon owes to the singular quality of our Rock Arch clone of cabernet. The big, flavorful, mouth-coating 2021 Reserve Cab is truly a "cab for cab lovers". The density of aroma and flavor is thrilling with layers of cedar, black tea, cassis, and menthol unfolding in your glass. Its deep hue speaks to the concentration that is only possible when working with mature vines. The tannins are pleasantly assertive, having had the chance to integrate for nearly two years in barrel. This wine shows beautifully now but has the gravitas to beneficially age for decades.

Pride's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes mainly from vines taken as cuttings from Bella Oaks and planted in 1980 on AXR rootstock. While suffering from phylloxera, the resulting wine is something special, a big, rich, velvety effort infused with the essence of cassis and black cherries. Full-bodied and densely concentrated, it remains fresh and lively though the long, lingering finish.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is slightly more dense and concentrated, and as with the Reserve Claret, needs plenty of air to show at its best. Ripe red and black currants, spicy oak, smoked tobacco, and hints of graphite all define this medium to full-bodied, nicely layered Cabernet Sauvignon, which has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as velvety tannins. It has charm today but will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and have 20-25 years of overall longevity.
