2000 Pride Merlot
With a long pedigree of great scores and reviews (most recently on the 1999 Merlot, 94 points from Wine & Spirits, 90 points from The Wine Spectator and 94 points from The Wine Enthusiast), the 2000 Merlot is yet another beautiful marriage of Pride fruit and Foley finesse. The backbone of many a cellar since our very first vintage of Merlot in 1991, this wine has made us innumerable friends. From folks new to the pleasures of fine wines, to those with sophisticated palates who have come to believe that only a big California Cabernet can still their hearts, many a Pride fan has been brought into the fold through a first encounter with a bottle of our Merlot. High altitude exposure, mountainous terrain and rocky soils have bred intensely dark pigments into the skins of our Merlot, producing an opaque inkiness. Our consistent emphasis on truly ripe fruit is evident in this wine as its profuse blackberry and currant aromas leap from the glass. Beautifully weighted and deep, this wine portrays everything that is body and length, coating the palate and lingering on and on with flavors of ripe berries and roasted coffee beans, cassis, currant and cedar. An extremely broad structure of Bob’s “friendly” tannins carries the rich, vibrant flavors across the full spectrum of the palate.
