2014 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious and compelling, possessing nuanced ripe fruit, complex spice, an unctuous, round mid-palate and a finish that is balanced between varietal fruit notes and tannic intensity. Cabernet sauvignon blocks planted to clones 15, 4, 6, 337, and our own Rock Arch vineyard selection were harvested between September 23rd and October 22nd and fermented in individual stainless steel vats. After gentle pressing, the wines were aged in French oak (50% new) for 19 months before being blended with 8% merlot from our Wind Whistle block and 4% petit verdot from One Acre Hill, one of the highest elevation spots on the property. The final blend expresses ripe fruit notes ranging from blackberry to plum and cassis, as well as nuances of bay laurel, chocolate, black tea, brown sugar, graphite and crushed rose petal. The texture in the mouth is definitely that of a mountain wine, with size and concentration to balance the richness and opulence of its round mid-palate.

  • The Wine Advocate: Issue 233, October 31st, 2017 - Rating: 93+

A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, with 59% coming from Napa and 41% from Sonoma, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is very deep garnet-purple colored and is scented of crushed black currants, black cherries and black raspberries with touches of Mediterranean herbs, damp soil and unsmoked cigars. Medium-bodied, finely crafted, vibrant and with bags of poise, it is a wine that delivers quiet intensity while leaving a lasting impression. 5,885 cases were made.

  • California Grapevine: Volume 43, October 2017 - Rating: 91

Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, forward, deep, intense, spicy, cassis and blackberry fruit aroma with hints of dried herbs, dark chocolate, and black tea; full body; rich, ripe, concentrated, cedary, dark cherry and currant flavors with a plush mouthfeel; lingering aftertaste. Approachable now though best to age for at least several more years. Very highly recommended.

  • Jeb Dunnuck: December 2017 - Rating: 92

A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon offers lots black cherry and currant fruit as well as more graphite, scorched earth, and dried flower notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, pure and polished, with plenty of charm. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.

  • Wine Spectator: November 2017 - Rating: 90

Well-built, with firm tannins framing a core of dark berry, cedar, sage and tobacco leaf flavors. Enjoyable now but will likely improve in a year or two. Best from 2019 through 2. 5,885 cases made.
