2000 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon

2000 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon

Cab, Cab, Cab! Isn’t this what we’ve been waiting for all summer? While all of our wines make people smile, some days it just seems all anybody wants is Cab. “Are you sure there aren’t just a few bottles of the 1999 left?” “Why can’t we buy the 2000 now? We promise we won’t drink it until fall!” Well, the drought is over and the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is another gangbuster – the ideal marriage of mountain grown fruit and meticulous winemaking. A long growing season of warm days and cool nights began with bud break on the first day of spring and gave us completely mature fruit with no sacrifice in acidity. Perfect pollination meant that each cluster ripened evenly. Dark enough to dip your fountain pen in, thoroughly ripe aromas seem to roar from the glass with the characters of black cherry and dark chocolate. Immense on the palate, the approachable tannins immediately flood your entire mouth with ripe berry flavor, punctuated with suggestions of cedar and espresso beans. The finish of this amazingly full-bodied. Cabernet continues to coat the palate with soft, chewy and flavorful tannins long after the glass is empty.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide: December 2002 - Rating: 92

Once again, Pride Mountain has come up with one of the most effusively fruity and intensely characterful Cabernet Sauvignons around, and its sheer generosity comes with no compromise in genuine polish. Beautifully made with layer upon layer of sweet oak, cocoa, dried flowers and absolutely unrelenting fruit, it is as extravagant in its gifts at the close as it is to start, and its ample tannins provide plenty of structure and staying power without ever interrupting its fruity flow.

  • Wine & Spirits: December 2002 - Rating: 92

Dark in tone, clean and fragrant, this wine combines a sophisticated textured richness with clean, fresh berry fruit. It has the juiciness of fresh raspberries and cherries, followed by a black, tannic length. Cedary and cool, this will develop well.

  • Wine Enthusiast: February 2003 - Rating: 93

Black as Midnight, and stains the side of the glass. This is a big, extracted wine with plenty of body. Potent Cabernet aromas of black currants, tar, tobacco and herbs explode from the glass, along with lots of sweet oak.

  • Wine Spectator: January 31 - February 28, 2003 - Rating: 90

Intense and vibrant, with a tight band of spicy currant, anise, mineral and sage. Young and backward, it needs time to soften and evolve. Best from 2004 through 2012.
