2010 Cabernet Franc
The four blocks of cabernet franc that form this cuvée were harvested on November 5th, 6th and 9th, and the final blend, after fifteen months in barrel, is a charmer. The wine was blended with 12% merlot, 8% cabernet sauvignon, and, for the first time ever in our cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot to add structure and enhance the mouthfeel. Subtle notes of rose petals and green tea contribute intrigue to a core of raspberry, plum and chocolate flavors that are revealed in waves. 2010 was characterized by a cool wet spring followed by a mild, warm summer and just a smattering of rain in an otherwise temperate fall. Our vineyard crew worked tirelessly to coax full phenological ripeness from our vines in this cooler-than-average vintage through extensive shoot thinning, leaf pulling and fruit thinning. The wine is fresh and lively on the palate, with a lush texture, bright acidity and well-integrated, ripe tannins.
